Join Let's Grow Akron for a cooking demonstration hosted by Maple Valley Branch. Zoom participation with food kits available for the first ten registrants.

Register online, in person, or by phone at 330.864.5721.

This program will be presented on Zoom.

In this ongoing series, local chefs will prepare a budget-friendly, seasonal dish with fresh produce available at the Summit Lake Neighborhood Farmer's Market and/or Let's Grow Akron Community Farm Market. Details about these markets will be shared at each session and found on Let's Grow Akron's website: www.letsgrowakron.org.

FREE Food kits, including the ingredients needed to prepare the seasonal dish, will be available for pick up at Maple Valley Branch for the first ten registered patrons.

The theme for this series of classes is local, seasonal eating. The benefits of cooking and eating produce grown locally and harvested in season will be emphasized. Seasonal produce is more readily available and, therefore, more affordable at the grocery store or farmer's market. Local produce is harvested closer to ripeness and travels a shorter distance from the farm to the grocery store, retaining more nutrients and reducing its environmental impact. Purchasing from local growers and producers stimulates and strengthens the local economy. Seasonal produce grown and harvested locally has the best flavor!

Each class will include a 30-minute cooking demonstration plus 15 minutes for Q&A and 15 minutes to share information about Let's Grow Akron Community Farm Market, Summit Lake Neighborhood Farmer's Market, and local farmer's market nutrition incentive programs.

A log-in will be sent three days before the event. Please do not share the web link for this program. If someone else is interested in attending, please have them contact the library to register.

A webcam and microphone may be necessary for participation in this interactive event. If you have one or neither of these, your level of participation will be limited.

If you do not have an email address, please contact the Maple Valley Branch at 330.864.5721 to learn how to participate in this program via phone.

About the branch

The Maple Valley Branch Library is a key component of a neighborhood that finds a welcoming community gathering place within its walls. Artwork features local artists Debra Calhoun, Melissa Daubert, and the late Miller Horns, and a plaque pays tribute to poet and Maple Valley childhood customer Rita Dove. Rich book, movie, and music collections celebrate, among other genres, the extensive contribution of African-Americans to the arts, literature. In addition, the library is a hub of activity that ranges from computers and computer classes, WiFi, printing, copying, scanning and faxing, to hundreds of programs for all ages on themes as diverse as local history, book discussions, crafting, storytelling, homework help, and more.

Local non-profit groups meet at the Maple Valley Branch Library frequently, and Library staff can be found participating in events at local schools and as participants in community organizations working toward neighborhood success. Maple Valley Branch Library is the one-stop spot for education, creativity, and entertainment to suit all interests.
