This Native American History Month, join us for a presentation on the history of the Portage Path, which served as the overland link between the Tuscarawas River and the Cuyahoga River, crossing the divide between the Ohio River and Lake Erie watersheds. This presentation will discuss the ancient landscape of Ohio and Summit County and the importance of the Portage Path in the pre-contact and historical periods.
Dr. Shaeffer is the Cultural Resources Coordinator for Summit Metro Parks. She has done archaeological work throughout Ohio and taught archaeology, anthropology, and sociology at the University of Akron and Kent State University. As an archaeologist and sociologist, she explores how humans have shaped landscapes in the past and present day.
