Author Judy James will share her stories of compiling Akron family recipes and researching the ethnic and cultural history of home cooking in the city.
A lifetime resident of Akron, Judy traces her Summit County roots to the early 1800s when her German immigrant ancestors settled in what is now Coventry Township. She retired in 2016 from the Akron-Summit County Public Library where she was employed for more than 35 years and managed Special Collections, the Library's local history and genealogy division, for over 15 years. She is a graduate of the Ohio State University and received her Master's degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University. Her love of local history, family history, and food was the inspiration for this book. She and her husband, Jeff live in the heart of an old neighborhood that was home to many of Akron's early immigrants.
Judy will be joined by Bob Ethington, former manager of the Library's Culture & AV Division. Bob is now on the Friends of the Main Library board and will interview Judy about her work on this book. The book will be available to purchase from the Friends of the Main Library and Judy will also be available to sign copies after the event.
Registration is required for this program. For more information, contact the Special Collections Division at 330.643.9030 or email speccollections@akronlibrary.org.
