Local author Kathryn Hardgrove Popio will present lively characters from her book of Civil War letters. She'll use a collection of hats to introduce members of the Hardgrove families of Stark County.

Historical author and educator Kathryn Hardgrove Popio presents the lively characters from her book of Civil War letters titled, Cross Keys, Carpet Bag and Pen. She will use her collection of hats to introduce the characters from three lines of the Stark County Hardgrove families. Their experiences cover years 1858 through 1866—on the home front in nearby Massillon and Canal Fulton, and from the regimental sites of the 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry deep in the sweltering South. Popio taught at Kent State and Akron University for over 20 years and is author of 100 history features. She was also a weekly columnist for the Medina Gazette for 9 years.
