Their experiences cover years 1858 through 1866—on the home front in nearby Massillon and Canal Fulton, and from the regimental sites of the 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry deep in the sweltering South. Popio taught at Kent State and Akron University for over 20 years and is author of 100 history features. She was also a weekly columnist for the Medina Gazette for 9 years.
