Author Michele Makros discusses her book based on letters her father, USAT Marine Wolf Michael Makros Jr, wrote to her mother during WWII, describing the human experience of a wartime ship at sea.
“Love Letters from the Marine Wolf: A US Hospital and Transport Ship, an Army Medic Afloat, and a War Bride in World War II.” The author's personal connection to the story is illustrated throughout the book, which all began after she discovered her mother’s large collection of heart-wrenching love letters written by her father, Tec 4 Michael Makros Jr., Ship’s Complement Surgical Technician, USAT Marine Wolf. The book includes shipmate testimonials and serves to teach readers more about World War II through true personal stories that take history below deck to find the human experience of a wartime ship at sea.
