About the branch

In 1946, the Akron-Summit County Public Library purchased its first bookmobile and began delivering books to remote neighborhood stops in Summit County. A year later, a second bookmobile was added, which extended outreach to agencies working with children throughout the service area. Today, Mobile Services continues to build on this legacy of unique and personalized service to the community by reaching beyond the library buildings and serving customers of all ages, cultures and abilities.

Mobile Services strives to reach the underserved in our community. For that reason, in addition to the youth and educators of Summit County, our bookmobiles also partner with community organizations and agencies to serve adults with special needs and to provide service to rehabilitation facilities and transitional housing. Our lobby stop van brings the library and its services to adults and seniors in apartment buildings, senior centers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. We even have the Library Express Delivery Service (LEDS), which aims to meet the needs of homebound individuals of all ages, as well as their care partners, by conveniently mailing library items right to their Summit County address.

In all weather conditions, Mobile Services is on the road bringing the library to you and meeting your information and entertainment needs while embracing inclusion and celebrating the diversity of our community.
