Come learn more about our beloved superheroes and the role Northeast Ohio has had in their creation.
Dr. Valentino Zullo, the Anisfield-Wolf Postdoctoral Fellow in English and the Public Humanities at Ursuline College, will be presenting on the History and Future of the Superhero.
In 1938 when Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman in Cleveland and with the publication of Action Comics #1, they established an entirely new genre of the superhero.
Today, the superhero is one of Northeast Ohio’s greatest contributions to American culture. In this presentation, we will consider the history of the genre and what led to the superhero boom of the twenty-first century. From Superman and Batman to Ms. Marvel and Black Panther, we will look at the origins and future of the superhero genre.
