"Agency" is a timely, mind-bending techno-thriller and exploration of both humanity and artificial intelligence’s potential to shape the world, published in 2020 and written by William Gibson who pioneered the cyberpunk genre.

In an alternate timeline, in 2017 Hilary Clinton became President and the Brexit vote kept the UK within the European Union but terrorist attacks in Syria remain a threat and all is not well with a future timeline desperately reaching into this ‘stub’ of a past timeline. Receiving the future timeline’s warnings from fixer Wilf Netherton and shot-caller Detective Inspector Ainsley Lowbeer, who both exist in London in 2136, is tech-savvy San Franciscan Verity Jane. Verity is soon fleeing her latest employer, armed with (and increasingly dependent on) their AI digital assistant ‘Eunice.’ Can Verity, Eunice, and their contacts from the future ultimately seize the agency to save the modern world in Verity’s timeline?

Visit the library's catalog to reserve this or other titles by William Gibson.
